how much money does it cost to start a hatchery

mrs b. bates farm :

wow thats really young to me to be outside..

It seems that way to alot of people. I read on here about people keeping their chicks inside for a month or 2. I cant imagine. Its like the Bermuda Triangle of chickens here. Things happen for me that dont for others. For example. Ive got 7 layers, 15 pullets, and 10 roosters mixed together. I take every free rooster I can get. They dont really fight and are gentle with the ladies. Dunno why it works it just does.

How do I introduce the new chicks to the flock? - I here people ask this alot to. As soon as they are fully feathered they go from the growout pen to the coop. I watch them for a day or 2 and help them in at night if need be. After that they are on their own. The GO pen is inside the coop so they know its their home. Ive lost very few young ones to not coming back. Very rairly do the big birds pick on the chicks. If I see one thats being tormented she goes back into the GO pen until shes a little bigger.

and as for profit.

I think not. Ive 4800$ in the whole this year(includes everything) but next year will be profitable. Networking and volume are two things you need to make money. Its hard especially because I dont want anyone penned up. I was have several coops next year with a specific breed for each coop. Seems to me its the only way I can do it and keep them 100% free ranging.
