how much money have you spent on your setup?

I'm about $300 into my chickens so far, but that includes everything.. The coop/run itself I'm only out $120 for wood, vents, chicken wire, netting,staples, nails, hinges and waterer/feeder as I converted an existing shed into the coop

If I looked into all the money I've spent on animals I might not enjoy having them so much. I agree that they are a hobby. I try to reuse as much material as I can but having set up several different runs and pastures, it just seems natural to go to the farm store each pay week and buy more supplies.

With all we have spent over the last 3 years we figure our eggs are worth about $40.00 per doz!

Way to much I am still young but I spend most of my allowance and pay from my job on chickens stuff instead of electronic gadgets and useless stuff like my friends do. I agree that if I worked over my expenses this hobby really wouldn't be fun anymore its defently not a profitable buisness.

Remember though, chickens will crap on everything, so it's no use making things nice unless it's the kind of nice that makes your life easier. My husband and I's motto is "good enough is good enough"

I have NEVER stopped building since I got the chickens nearly 4 years ago. I spend at least an hour or two a day building something.

I don't want to add up the cost. I'm sure it's in the $10,000-$15,000+ range.

Not costing the feed costs. Only the supplies.

I've probably got less than $100 in my current coop - I don't have any pics up yet, but the coop was made with mostly leftover building materials and scrap wood. The most cost went toward poultry fencing...
