How much room do they need???

wait I have a solution! I'll just trade my birds in for banthams or a mini breed!! instant room savings
It's still too small. Getting different birds would not solve anything. I would trash the coop all together.
At the very minimum, they need 5sqft per bird in the coop, and 10sqft per bird in the run. Not a shoe box sized coop.
I would immediately start work on improving their setup. There are lots of chicken coop plans here. And the members here will be more than happy to give you advice on how to build something better.
For now, are they free ranging during the day?

I dont think coop space is as much as a problem as run space my birds literally just sleep in the coop they need room to roam while not in the coop...you dont wanna know how small a coop i had with 5 birds in it...now its just one but its a tiny coop barely fits a rooster now
Coop space is just as important as run space. Imagine being cooped up (no pun intended, literally) in a tiny room to sleep. It’s unhealthy.

I can’t tell if your being serious or not and if you are you serious, you need to look into chickens facts. This isn’t really “funny” anymore and by your comments about the thread you started… it seems like you are taking actual helpful things with a grain of salt.

We’re talking about living, breathing creatures with organs here. Based on your comments i’m thinking you thought people would agree with you on the coop being “just the right size”.

Bottom of the line:
Coop needs to be a minimum 5sq feet for each bird.
Run needs to be a minimum of 10sq ft per bird.
They need a heater waterer.
Clean bedding
Adequate ventilation
and not to be squeezed into this tiny box because “they seem happy”.

I’m in no way trying to be rude but based on your comments “i’ll just get sweaters for them” does not help the fact that the coop is way too small. We were all beginners at first and we seeked help along the way. As for myself, I asked questions and took peoples information and concerns seriously. We started with a 5x4 coop for 4 birds. Now we have a beautiful 8x6 coop because i listened to people that have been doing this for a lot longer then i have.

But i guess everyone is different 🤷🏼‍♀️

Most people dont care...its nothing more then a chicken and most people kick them literally etc... They are not people or animals people care to much about....as for mine I culled my 4 hens i had in that coop yesterday as they werent laying and i aint feeding useless birds. Rooster can stay in it until i need him

Okay and that’s you. Everyone has different opinions. But they are still living, breathing creatures. As for me a LOT of other people i CARE about my chickens because they are my pets.

As for this person who created this thread, they’re worried about coop space. Multiple people gave them suggestions.
