I have kept birds outside at -50 to -60 one winter, It was also a tiny 4x4x4 coup, I had to force them outside everynight and they would eat sunflower seeds in the snow then they would hop back in. I had an oil filled heater runnin on a thermostat and that worked pretty well but the floor was always frozen, I was thinking about a heated electric floor!

Anyways, I think I'll leave them in the garage in a special run, and we open the garage door daily to go to work so that will give them air exchange.

I just want to add, that my coop and run are supposed to be big enough for my 6 hens. I say supposed to be because even though it was, I still had bullying issues. I had two birds that would peck and pull feathers off one bird. When they pecked that bird to death, yes, it happened, they started attacking another bird. I culled the two bullies and thought that solved the issue. Got three more birds, to replace the ones that were gone. The bullying picked back up but this time it was different aggressors. So I expanded my run by 32 additional square feet. What a difference that makes! All the bullying issues have stopped. Everyone can mill around and do what they want, very rarely are they aggressive towards each other. Space matters, even if they get outside time. Good luck with whatever you decide

So you've already done this?

Starting the car in an enclosed space with birds in it could negate any 'fresh' air.
