how much room for laying hens?? Please advise. Do I need a bigger pen

Ok, I have 13 hens now with one rooster. I am getting 14 Jersey Giants on Monday. If the main section of the pen is 10x20 and the back half is 10x10 is that enough? Total area is about 300 sq. Should I go by 5 sq per chicken or 10? Do you think I willhave enough room???? Please advise

Maybe you will need a bigger coop. Can you post any pictures?

That is quite a lot of chicken in not too much space, if it's their total living space. I sure wouldn't do it. COuld you get away with it? Maybe. Do you really want to find out? The hard way?

Something like double or triple that would be a good *minimum* living space, IMO.

the formula I've heard on here repeated by many is 4 square feet of coop space per bird, 10 square feet of run space.
