How much sand?

I have sand in my run and coop and love it!! I tried pine shavings and hay and the sand works the best. I can just scoop everything out of the sand. I have hardly any flies now, like I did with the other stuff.

I've gotten about 4 tons of sand so far, most of it was for the 20x30 run. But I put it about 2-3 inches thick inside the coop.

It costs me $13.50 a ton, which doesn't even fill a standard 1/2 ton pickup truck bed. But I usually have the guy put a ton and a quarter in there.

i think sand is a great way to go, but i agree that you should first replace the plywood. you'll rot your joists pretty quickly with chicken liquid percolating through it.

sand is wonderful, a great draining substrate, inexpensive, scratchable/bathable, and easy for you to clean up. i say go for it. sorry, naysayers.

Thanks all!

Sorry, my name comes from all of my former pet names! It's not my name actually.
