How much seperation between chicken and quail

I've read over and over again that chicken and quail shouldn't be lodged together, but no indication of how much seperation is required. I just wanted to double check if my coop layout would be considered relatively safe. I have a back shed that I want to use for my fowl. If I run cages along one wall, leave a 3" walkway, then install a plywood wall for the chicken coop, would that be enough separation to prevent transfer of disease?

Thanks.

I always kept chickens and quail in pens side by side with only 1 bit of mesh or wood with no problems. If it was elegant or something that expensive I would probably make sure that they are along way a way from chickens but for just normal Japanese or bobwhites then they should be fine.
