How much should I be feeding 3 week old chicks

I would free feed my birds. I actually do sprinkle a bit of chick grit on the ground, just to give them something to scratch around for. I know it’s not really necessary though. Anyway, good luck with your chicks! ❤️

I free feed chicks and also offer grit (as mine are outside eating whatever they can put in their mouths, mmm dirt). Only reason not to have feed available around the clock for chicks is if you have meat birds and are trying to slow/restrict their growth. I do offer minimal treats (like 1-2 mealworms) for "training" purposes.

Someone on the forum suggested cutting some turf (trim any long grass) and flip it over for the kids to play with. Mine had a wonderful time with the roots and bugs, and dug all around the clod until it’s just dirt mixed with their bedding. They’ve also kicked most of their food out of the feeder so they can scratch and peck it from the floor. My chicks are 1 week old, and will free range when they are old enough to go outside. They always have chick feed and plenty of water for free access, just like the hens do outside
