How much should neighbor $$ for Judys death??

Well when my neighbors dog killed my rooster and then my goat the police told me to count the cost of the animals when I bought them. Any expenses since (food) vacanitons etc. Then round it up. Of course for me it did not work out we had to go to small claims court and I won the decision then of all things she filed bankrucpty on her house and all her belongings including my verdict of $160.00 including court cost. I hope at least yours will pay up with out going thru all of that. Good luck

The Cost of the Bird, Feed, and Egg production.
eggs are going to 2.19 a dozen here and i know we go thru @ least 3 dozen a week in my house. and times that by a yr .... bet she never lets her dog run again !!!

I asked for and got $25 each for the dozen hens I lost to a neighbors dog. It doesn't stop the hurt or ease the memory, but hopefully helps to make them accountable for their dog.

When we first got chickens, I told the neighbors that had dogs and they all agreed they would keep their dogs on a leash or on their property, but a couple told me they would reimburse me if their dog killed any of my chickens.

At that point I told them that our chickens were priceless, we had raised them since they were yellow balls of fluff and were very dear to us.

I would go high. At least $50 or more citing the cost of feed, litter, loss of eggs (it could take up to 7 months to get a chick from ball of fluff to laying hen.) and emotional trauma. . .

It doesn't so much matter what you'd like him to pay, it comes down to what the *law* defines as reparation. Which in the case of livestock is relatively unlikely to include sentimental value, money put into this particular animal, etc. It should be at least what you paid (or could have realistically sold 'em for at the time of death) plus the cost of the window... but it is quite possible you may not be able to collect more than that.

You can always *try* to get cost of feed, future value of eggs, etc I suppose, but the law may not be on your side and anyhow it is unlikely to be worth going to court over...

I would figure every cent spent on her from the day you got her and the total value of her lifetime potential of eggs and at least try for that. I can see that it would be 100% worth going to court over. If someone has to take time off work, suffer the humiliation of being taken to court, etc. they will be far more likely to try and make sure it never happens again. I know, however, that no amount of money can take away the hurt of losing her.
