how much to butcher a hog?

    what do u guys pay to butcher a hog? we are thinking of getting one to raise. just not sure what most people charge to cut one up. so whatare u guys paying/charging? the guy across the street is going in on it with us. he is a retired butcher. he is going to do the smoking,grinding and the sauge. we just need some were to hang the meat tell it cools and firms up and some one with a band saw. so hopefully that will help with some of the cost. any ideas what most charge?

    We just butchered one but we did it ourselves. The butcher would only cut it up and package it, not kill it and it had to be skinned, the head removed, and packed in ice. Then they would charge per pound and extra if you wanted anything smoked.

    We will be ready to butcher a pig or two in another month. I have not checked on prices yet, but anything over a $1.50/lb will be to high. I will also try to barter some. I will try to remember to post when the time comes with all the information.

    I can't remember the total cost on the last one we had processed, but they charge by weight and cut. Depending on whether you want a lot of sausage or a lot of chops, the cost will increase.

    $40 to kill /$0.49 per pound cut wrap flash freeze/ an additional $0.59 per lb smoked . I forget what sausage cost, links where more. This is a usda butcher. Everything is flash frozen vacum sealed. my last batch cost about $2.00 per pound toatal?(raising feed butcher).

    we did our two pigs with a buddy who is an experienced home butcher. we got him a gift certificate for $100 to cover his drive/gas costs (he had a rather long drive). i think my neighbors paid about $30 kill fee plus .30 a pound at a deer processor which was about half of what the local in town butcher charges.

    that sound you hear in the back ground is our pork sausage on the stove....deeeelish!

    really?..they charge to kill them?..they dont here,last one I had done was like $50,to come get it,kill it,everything,tho I didnt do hams or bacon,I like sidepork better..

    I just had it priced here in Colorado. It was forty to slaughter and I dont remember the break down but by the time I was out the door with a three hundred pound fat hog. sausage bacon hams which costs quite a bit it was going to be about two hundred fifty bucks. I am a butcher by trade but do not have a cooler. I will do it myself one way or the other. NOt going to spend seven fifty on three pigs.

    sounded like a lot to me
