How much ventilation in a warm climate?

Full length diagonals is stronger but short diagonals are ok too as long as they are not *way* short, you know? I would suggest using something wider than 2x4s, though -- a 1x6 or 2x6, or piece of plywood (like, a right triangle made by diagonally cutting a several-foot scrap of plywood), will be stronger IME because it gives you more width of wood to screw through into the frame.

Beergnome, I am about two hours away from you and I have found you need protection from the hot evening sun in the summers here. If for any reason you need to leave them in the coop in the summer, they will thank you for it. Mine have access to the run at all times and in mid summer here they stay in the shade and still look like they are about to have heat strokes. None ever have, but they look miserable. Close in whatever side faces west.
