How much water do chickens drink?

In the warm temps mine go through 5gal a day. In the cooler temps they might get by with the 5 gal every other day.

I’d definitely fill it and check the level daily. I would let it go more than 2 days without refilling it.
Wow!! How many chickens do you have? Mine normally go through a full gallon waterer every two days..

I have 8 chickens, almost 5 months old and just recently got a 3 gallon waterer. How many days should this last them? Thanks!
I've cheated, got one of those doggie water bowls that are auto fill, short of losing power, (we're water haul, need power for the pump) they always have water.. clean the bowl of dirt and sand and they are set.

Your birds should consume twice the water than feed at least. For your size flock it may last 6 days but spillage and rinsing to keep clean may waste it sooner. Extreme dryness or heat and they may consume more. Mine is smaller 1 gallon for 4 birds and last me 2-3 days sometimes 4. Spillage and rinsing bottom fountain to clean wastes more.

How much they drink depends on many things:
  • Size
  • Age
  • Diet
  • Temperature
  • Health status
  • Laying status
Here is some information I found to be accurate:
