How much water?

I have 3 chicks. 2 of them are possibly CornishX and not the Buff Orpingtons I believed I was buying. They're about 6 weeks old. They're drinking about half a quart every 10hrs. What is the norm?

I don't know the exact "Norm" but I have 6 chickens in one pen with a gallon waterer and 6 chicks with a gollan waterer as well and I have a gallon waterer for my brooder and I fill the 2 in the coop up about every three days and I fil the one in the brooder up every 5 days. I hope this helps you out a bit.

I have no idea what the norm is but it seems that the CornishX drink more than other chicks. Everything I have read says to be sure they always have clean water. Hopefully someone else will chime in here with more info for ya.

At 6 weeks old you should know without any shadow of a doubt whether you have Cornish X or Buff Orps.

At that age Cornish X are darn near slaughter weight, they really can't be mistaken for anything else and no matter the breed they should be pretty well feathered out by now.

Either way their water consumption does not sound out of the norm at all. It will vary according to environment, temperature, breed, age, etc. But ours go through a comparable amount.

I dump & clean out my water bowls daily, I estimate each full-grown chicken(roo too) are drinking 2-3 cups of water during daylight hours.

YEp! They DRINK ALOT! Once mine get to be about 6-8wks. I just use a black rubber bucket(they are low to the ground)...they sell them at The Tractor Supply! They are awesome..b/c I don't have to fill them up constantly and if you put a brick or something under them to prop them up higher...they won't kick a bunch of dirt and bedding in the bucket. PLUS in the wintertime...when they freeze..they rubber buckets are easy to empty the ice out of. I had horses for yrs. so this was what I got used to using for them. Blessings, Keri

I just don't remember my chicks drinking this much last spring. Maybe they did, but there were 10 of them and I just don't remember having to refill it this often. Maybe it's due to the 2 of them being meaties and growing so fast.
