It would depend on the age, gender and quality of the bird. A point-of-lay pullet of good quality, for example, is going to fetch a much better price than an old, end of production years, lesser quality hen -- and show quality birds going to a breeding/showing buyer will demand a higher price than a "nice" bird that is going to a person just looking to have a nice egg laying flock.

I've never heard of an offer like that before. I'd say the going rate is anywhere from 15 to 20. Depending on how bad people want to thin out their coops. I bought a Buff orpington and a Barred rock for 8 dollars apiece and was thrilled. They are both very nice birds. I also bought a Black Orpington for 10. Again, I was very happy.
