Yesterday was so hot here that my daughter decided to take the chickens in the pool-I have 5, so she took them in one at a time-they loved it-after they got out they all seemed to be happier since they had cooled off. The chickens swim just like ducks. At first they flapped their wings, but then they calmed down and that was that-swimming chickens. Now when my husband saw the pictures--well- he really wasn't to happy about the chickens swimming in the pool

There have been several posts since this heat wave started warning about letting chickens swim. I know you are right there, but they aren't 'waterproof' like ducks, their feathers soak up water and pretty soon there is a chicken at the bottom of the pool. Just saying, but cute photo!

No need to worry I'm a responsible chicken Mom--My daughter was right there in the pool with them--I would never leave the chickens in the pool unattended. It was just a few minutes -if that, that each one went in. Just enough to cool them off--it was 100 degrees here.

Loved the pic's. thanks. We had a broody hen and I thought about putting her in the pool for a short time. My grown son was horrified. All he could say was "Are you kidding me?" Like most people on here, my chickens are my feathered children. thanks again.

Omg, i love this!! She looks so content and COOL! :) Really cute!!!

**edited to add. The dogs are wondering when it's their turn.

There's a really cool thread in the Chicken Stories forum where the owner of some Buff Orps lets them swim in her pool all the time. They love it! Chickens arn't as doomed in the water as most people think. They probably couldn't last for hours at a time, but then neither could a human or a dog in normal circumstances.

I like your Dom. I have well you know 64 red chickens & one Dom. She's my favorite she has a great personality & never causes any problems. I wish I had more of them. Here's mine:
