How Not to Handle Chicks

Will pop in tomorrow. But ya gotta learn the 'little cage thing' for holding chicks. If they thrash free -- as they can if held as in the video -- they can break a leg, and have to be put down.

I've had many people come over and let a chick fall out of their hands from WAY too high. I didn't make it to the end of the video, but very much enjoyed what I did see.

as fast as i can type

tips of index fingers together on top side of neck
likewise tips of second fingers bottom side of neck
tips of ring fingers together in front of legs
tips of pinkie fingers together behind legs
Thumbs together firmly shunting chick forward into 'cage'

Note chick's leggies hang in space, no traction for thrusting out of one's grasp

We did, some years ago, have a distraught pet owner who had to have his chick put down because it struggled free, and broke a leg in the fall
