How NOT to help the Ameraucana/Americana/EE issue/cause

So, this morning I was at the feed store browsing the cages of chickens that were available for purchase. I was looking at a very pretty EE hen. She look for all the world like a Salmon Faverolle with a dusty colored muff and slate colored legs; I forget what her comb was. Anyway, I said to no one in particular: "pretty bird", and the worker on the other side of the cage piped up: "she's an Americana".

Well, I should have bitten my tongue, or I should have said "why do you think so?" but instead I said (not aggressively, mind you): "no she's not".

Ouch....
Then the conversation went like this:

"yes she is"
"no she isn't"
"yes she is"
"no she isn't"....

until he walked off in a huff.....

I think my diplomacy skills need some work.....

Oh my..I have had so many of those conversations.

I think I've just about given up hope on educating the world. Hatcheries have really messed this up, haven't they?
