I make a point to check on mine no less than 3 times a day. If any food or water is needed it gets filled. They never run out. I make sure there is always food and fresh water available. My checks are in the morning then sometime mid day and in the evening when it's time for them to start going to bed. When it's really hot or freezing cold it's more often. Either handing out frozen water bottles to their water or making sure it's not frozen in the winter.
I keep water bottles in my deep freezer and in the summer I hand them out in the morning, change them in the afternoon when it's the hottest then in the afternoon. At night I usually go out and retreive them and return to the freezer after a rinse.
