How often do you handle your baby chicks?

Oh my gosh not at all. I do some trading with several folks. One thing that I have noticed is that there are several young guys(18-22) into chickens. I think it is great. I have around 250 chickens and i just started last year with 4H for my boy.

My DS can hold a chick or big one and put it to sleep. We call him the chicken whisperer.lol:cd

We handle ours about every day. The oldest are 2 months old now, and they are very tame. We got one chicken as an adult who hadn't been handled much as a chick, and she was impossible to catch or hold! It definitely made a difference.

I handle ours a few times a day, whenever feeding or cleaning their water thingies

. Most of them are to the point they will hop up on my arms and I look like a Christmas tree

. I'm having sooo much fun watching them grow, they're about 3-4 weeks old now, I think.

We have had two sets of chicks first batch hatched from mpc 5-15-09 we held them and talked to them a lot! They really liked us. One especially wanted to get close all the time. Our second set hatched 7-20-09 They act really scared of us and peep loudly when we check them for pasty butt and when ever we hold them. One really looks at me and doesn't mind being held but the one chick we suspect is the roo we ordered, pecks her feet when she is in my hand. I talk to them a lot and they like whistling very much. I think you need to make an effort to show them you are safe.

A note - I went to a conference for a week and my big girls had to get used to me all over again. They are not like elephants and they forget.

Just keep talking to them. Tell them what you are doing! Compliment their plumage - they just like the tone of your voice.
