How often do you scoop...your poop?

I have just moved my girls into their first ever coop, and provided them with poop catcher boards while they sleep.

They seem very pleased, judging by the unerring accuracy they have demonstrated over the past two night, and I have one question...

How often should these boards be cleaned? Daily? Weekly? When it piles up?

I have 9 banties and 10 standards...

Thanks!

That's pretty much a matter of your own preferences. I dump out my poop tray every morning into our composter, hose it off, and replace it clean for the next night's service.

We all have different set-ups and conditions. I normally clean mine every 5 to 7 days, depending on how much piles up. If I ever smell it, then I have waited too long. It did not take long to figureout how often I needed to clean it. If it is humid outside, I clean it a bit more often. But I only have 8 chickens and they spread out fairly well on the roost. There is one corner I go by for accumulation.

i clean the big poops everyday. in the their main coop living quarters!

i know its a bit much. but i am home all the time.

I knock on the door every morning and yell "houskeeping!". It's how they trained me

It only takes me a minute for my 9 layers and the boards are clean - no big deal.

I only have four girls. The floor of the coop is shavings. Every morning, I go in there with a small bucket and old spaghetti tongs and pick up each area of plop which are always directly under the roost. Then I stir up the shavings to keep them fluffy (for rainy day "dust" baths). Takes 2 minutes and keeps the shavings fresh for a long time. But of course, only practical if you have a small flock.
