How often does My Pet Chicken make a mistake? Now with Pictures

Australorps can take a very long time to develop. Mine is over 4 months old and just developing now, though my Marans are 2 months younger and are much older.

I think the Welsummer looks like it might very well be a rooster. I have seen some Welsummer hens with pretty prominent combs, but not necessarily at that age. I have some about that age now and theirs' are no where near that size at this point. The Dominique I am less confident in saying what it may be. Again, for that age it looks quite developed, but I have seen some Dominique hens with prominent combs. I don't have any though, so maybe someone that raises them can give better input on that one.

Yeah....The Dominique is def a Roo - lot of red, very noticable comb, and I see lots of white in the barring - which should be like barred rocks 2 white barring genes = always male. and the wellsummer I'm taking it is the one on the side you can see the definate comb sticking out

- Roo as well too much comb and waddle development going on there.

My Welsummer is 9 weeks and doesn't have a comb or wattle even close to that one. I would also say Welsummer roo.

9 weeks old and crowing? That seems early to me.

Also, I want to point out the MPC gets their chicks from other hatcheries, I've heard both Ideal and Meyer. I've had good luck with Meyer (100% sexing) but bad luck with Ideal (they can't even get the breeds right).

I am questioning my recent order from MPC, too. I ordered all pullets- 3 EE, 2 BA, and 1 SLW. I don't think we even got the SLW, as none of the chicks have yellow legs. We may also have 2 roo's in the lot. I am waiting this one out, but I just wonder how wrong the order could have gotten.

Well I am next to positive my SLW from MPC is a roo- he's 21 days old and already has wattles coming in! LOL. I'll have to rehome him, but will give him a few weeks to get out of the 'dinosaur' phase and to start looking cute again. Hopefully someone will want him. I know sexing is 90% but seems a lot of us recent people got a few more roos than usual.

I'm less stressed about it than I used to be since I started hatching - with hatching, I KNOW there will be LOTS of roos and I'll just have to deal with it. This SLW will hopefully go with them. I may keep one roo after I test to see how far the crowing will carry through our woods.

I ordered my first 7 chickens from MPC and got all pullets like I wanted. They are all healthy and are great layers now. My SLW has a single comb and a little off on the body shape but she lays a great egg. For the large comb/wattle breeds I would wait to call it until they are closer to 12 weeks old. A body picture would help out a lot if you could get some of those.
