I've had starter feed in since wk 1. They eat like crazy.

I would say have food available all the time, they generally eat only as much as they need.

For young chicks I leave them food around the clock. Once they get a little older (and they're pretty close to it) then I take out food at night, otherwise free access during the day.

They should have a food and water source available 24/7. There is never empty dishes in our pen.

What age do you normally start taking food away at night?

When they move into the coop, I no longer leave them with food overnight. For me that's around 5-6 weeks.
