Although I have noticed that the boys aren't interested in the molting or mothering gals. ( Insert muttered comment here about having to always look their best for the roo.) I use the breeding activity as an indicator of which hens are laying. If they aren't being served, they aren't laying. I don't speak chicken so I let their actions speak for them.
