You said you cleaned out cedar shavings......Cedar is very toxic to chickens!!! Change it out ASAP and replace with pine. Sorry, I don’t want to scare you.

I got rid of the cedar and since my straw was wet and I haven't been to the store yet, I had the idea to use the shredded paper in my document shredder. I hope that is ok. I plan on going to store later today. Thank you for your advice.
 
Hello Margaret and welcome to BYC! Getting chicks can be a little overwhelming but don't feel bad. We have all been in your shoes at one time or another. This is a great place to learn and share all your new chicken adventures. You will be a great chicken "mama" in no time. :frow
P.S. the shredded paper is fine for now. I even had to use puppy potty pads at times. It's OK, just stay away from cedar in the future.
