How Often Should I Clean My Coop?

I harvest the poop and a bit of the litter in my small coop every morning (I don't have poop boards). I replace some of the litter with shredded junk mail and such every week or two. This keeps the coop pretty clean. I wipe down the roost 2-3 times a year. The walls are painted and stay pretty clean. I hose off the coop latter a couple times a year. I harvest the chicken run and yard ~ 2 times a year. I do this to compost the litter and keep the run fresh.

I clean my poop boards every morning.when I feed and water.then I scoop up poop in their runs.i clean out my coop in the spring and than in the fall.with the poop board underneath the roost.it catches all their night droppings.which is a lot.i do add fresh shavings as needed.and I will say my coop does not smell.do a poop board underneath your roost.and it is easy peasy.

What do you do for a job if you clean your poop boards EVERY morning. I don't have that kind of time in the morning. I do feed them every morning and check the water at night.

We have wood shavings for right now. No poop board. So far the shavings can last about two weeks before starting to smell. Sometimes I clean it after 1 week though, or spot clean just the yucky areas. I just use a dust pan and scoop. It's been really easy. If there is a little build up under the roost sometimes I grab a handful of shavings and throw it on top. That's it here!

I don't know about others but I normally get up before 6 am and take care of my animals
as that is all a part of raising chickens or other live stock and as I learned early in life it is
good to get up and move around before going to work and all my children are up taking
care of the poultry before going to school normal wake up time around here is 5:15 am and
as late as 6: am on weekends and non school days as cages do need to be cleaned and water needs to be changed and feed needs to be put out but then again I did Retire some 14
years ago and yes my youngest boy just turned 13 and my oldest is 35 so this is my day
if it is not children then it is poultry of different types .......

I pick out the coop every morning. Especially the crap under the roosting ladder and on the straw bale over top the nesting boxes. Freshen the water and top up the scratch bowls. Observe everybody, see they are themselves. Once a month, all the bedding out, a thorough clean, and fresh bedding in. In future, I'm going to use the vodka lemon cinnamon cleanser I learned about on this site!
