Last week we 'rescued' a Royal Palm turkey tom that we have named Wilson. Wilson came from a farm where he was being mercilessly picked on by other turkeys. In addition to having lost most of his chest and tail feathers his flight feathers were cut in an attempt to keep him contained. My question is how long will it take for him to grow back his lost feathers? I'm seeing improvement and some are starting to come back in, but what about his flight feathers. I have no interest in pulling out the clipped feathers, I just want him to reach his full potential. He could be such a beautiful bird. We also intend to let him free range but in order to do that he will need his flight feathers to roost and evade predators. Anyone have any answers? suggestions? comments?
