How Old Do Banties Need to Be Before You Can Tell What Sex They Are?

Like the title says, how long before you can tell what sex bantams are? I'm sure breed probably influences it, so let's say cochins.

It depends on what breed it is. I could tell with one of mine cause one time I reached down to pet one at about 2 or 3 weeks and it tried to flog me

Breed matters......as with large fowl, some are sexable at hatch, some by 3 weeks, some by 6 weeks and some (cough, silkies, cough) at several months.

Cause I'm looking at getting some bantam cochins, but I don't have the facilities to house a ton of them forever. I'm trying to figure out how much space I need to keep them until I can figure out what gender they are and then find new homes for the rest.

There is a hatchery that sells sexed bantams. Really not sure off of the top of my head. I think it may be mypetchicken.

Yeah. Ideal Poultry (whose website is currently down ) has the best selection of birds I've been able to find. The banties are all straight run though.

Cochin are pretty easy at just a few weeks.
