I was wondering at what age does a hen stop laying eggs ? I have a silkie that is well over 7mths. and she only lays 1 egg every other day . Now I have a roo who knows he is a ROO !

But still only 1 egg every other day ? ( nothing fertile, and I have seen with my

the shared moment between them) Is it the breed or is she getting up in chicken age ? Thank you . The roo is about the same age if not a mth. younger .

An egg every other day is quite good. Seven months is very young for a hen so she may just be getting started.

At 7 months she's still just a spring chicken.

Hens may slack off from their peak production after a couple years or so, but they'll continue to lay indefinitely as far as that goes.

Silkies are not big layers, so at every other day she's probably doing a pretty good job.

I have a 5 year old hen that still lays regularly. She does like to take egg laying 'vacations' though for a few weeks at a time. But then goes back to egg laying. But she is a fiesty, arrogant, aracauana who never does what she is supposed to do anyway.

At 7 months, your hen is still just a teenager. She has years of egg laying ahead of her.

I don't think silkies are normally very good egg layers.

I have a ~10 year old production red that still lays an egg a few times a week in the summer for a few months.

Wow I don't think my roo laid an egg yet - he's 3 years old!
