How old is your oldest?

Our 2 adult hens are 4.5 years old, and the others are all just about 16 weeks old on Monday.

/cry my baby black Australorp Kizzy is getting her big girl wattles!! /cry.....she is looking so grown up now!

The oldest I know is 3 and half. I was given some birds couple years ago and I have no Idea how old they were when given to me.

I have 5 left from my original flock and they will be four this coming easter. The roo is a beast, believe me I wish he would go..well maybe I don't cuz he does keep everyone in line..lol

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I have read differing opinions ranging anywhere from 10 to 20 years so I am glad to get some numbers from real people with real chickens. Thanks!

20 years IMO isn't a realistic age- I would say 5-10 years is a good age for a chicken, just saying

anywhere up to 15 i say is realistic, i've seen enough of them that old. But 20 happens though rare, and especially if you don't keep them around after they stop reproducing!

I had a hen that was somewhere between 7 and 9 years old. She was an adult when I got her, and I had her for 7 years. She was healthy and robust when she was killed by a dog. I do know a woman that had a hen live to be 20.

I had a roo who died when he was 9 or 10 years old. I got him when he was 1 year old when I was in fifth grade. He died during my second year of college.
