Hello to all...bear with me please as I am new to chickens...much less Ameraucanas...Please help me decide at what age I should be deciding between my 3 Wheaten Ameraucana Roos and what factors you weigh heaviest in making your decision. They are all from same breeder. They are 3 months old. Thank you so much for any advice you can give me. Elizabeth in SC

Hi ... for me I prefer keeping the rooster that has the best qualifications.... the strongest most beautiful and friendly one.... and also you might choose a specific breed or trait that is found in different individuals.... and the traits and personality can appear from an early age but to take the best decision you should wait until they become at leat 3 months old or so... at that age the roos especially are completely feathered and show the real colors and the look they'll have when adults...
Hope that this helped a bit... that's the way I work with my fellows and I get very good results... good luck with yours!!!;)

Thank you for your reply to my question. They are all 3 so similar...w/ exception of 1 has legs which are not as dark as others...1 is a bit smaller...1 has a more upright tail. All are equally friendly & raised by same breeder. I am just wondering if there is an age that more clearly defines personality (like which one will live most compatibly with my blue wheaten roo and the hens...all raised together) or age where you can definitively see adult physical traits (feather, leg, beak color, comb etc.) I just want to make best decision for my new little flock.

At 5 to 6 months they will look like adults and will mature... start crowing. .. mating and showing their unique caracters.... but no rooster can be a friend with another one when they mature... each one will try to be hier in the pecking order and dominate the flock... so one of them will dominate the other one.... and they might fight to death to dominate the flock.... so you'll have to wait till they mature and observe each one's behavior to take your decision!!!! Good luck ;)
