How old was the oldest egg you've ever cooked?

I store my chicken eggs at room temp and have some that have been sitting out for 8+ weeks that I'm going to confidently boil today. I like to give away eggs to my family but my parents are really paranoid about getting "boiling age" eggs (2+ weeks) thinking surely they will be rotten! But this has never been my experience and it got me wondering.

What are the oldest eggs you've eaten that were stored at room temperature?

I dont store at room temp as I have found they spoil much faster than if refrigerated. Anthing stored that long are fed back to the birds.

Eggs are a great medium to grow all kinds of things so I am leary to keave them out unnecessarily; the eggs do have anti bacterial properties however. I suppose that helps them keep while at room temperature.

I don't wash my eggs except right before I use them if they are really dirty. So far no issues with eggs going bad at two months, unwashed at room temp. A lot of them floated in the pot when I boiled them from having a large air cell but were perfectly edible.

Surely there are other people with old egg experiences?!

I've kept eggs refrigerated for a few months and most were good to eat a few spoiled the rest tasted good i wouldn't normally refrigerate eggs that long but my hens were laying more than i could eat.So sometimes old eggs i cooked for the birds or fed to my dogs.

I am a USDA certified Candler and grader. Here is what you need to know. Eggs have a 45 day shelf life from day of hatch. To test the age of an egg put in a pan of water. If the egg sits on the bottom it is fresh the more it floats the older the egg.

Thanks for that. Do you mean washed and refrigerated shelf life? Or unwashed room temperature shelf life?
Who decided they are good for 45 days?

The USDA set the standard at 45 days from laying for refrigerated eggs. It is recommended that you refrigerate @ 45°as soon as possible after wash dirty eggs and drying. Only leave out eggs for hatching. shelf life for eggs left out is very short.

Did you know that is is illegal in Europe to wash or refrigerate eggs?

I don't believe it is necessary to wash even dirty eggs (I just wash my hands after cracking them) and I always leave my eggs out at room temperature. As I said in the original post, I had left unwashed eggs out at room temperature for 10 weeks before boiling and eating. They had lost a fair amount of moisture and did float in the boiling water but were still delicious boiled eggs. (I DID wash the eggs before boiling)

So by a short shelf life for eggs left at room temperature, do you mean they will be rotten before 45 days? Because I can confidently say the 10 week old boiled eggs that I ate were not rotten. :)

That is the standard set by the USDA. You can view it on their website. If you choose to get your Candling /grading license this is the protocol you have to follow.

It may be the standard set by the USDA - but it does not make it gospel
