How old will geese start laying?

Just wondering how long it takes before geese start laying eggs and trying to mate for real. We figured it would be spring before it happened but as this is our first experience with geese we weren't sure. Our geese and gander play at mating sometimes in their pond but haven't "mated" yet.

Some start as yearlings, some don't lay until they are 2 years old. They are very long lived. They are still growing at 2 years of age.
