How QUICKLY do chicks get their feathers?

I swear mine have more feathers by the end of day then they do when I first go out to see them in the morning.

I think that certain breeds feather out quicker then other breeds as well. Also I think it depends if they are male or female. Like right now I have 6 chicks all about 3 1/2 weeks old - my barred rock pullet has a TON of feathers, almost looks completely feathered out except for her head....but my barred rock cockeral ( which is what he obviously is now..) has half the amount of the feathers, but a REALLY PINK/RED comb. Then my four "red pullets" (all red sex link we think) have about half their feathers.

But yea, I never realized how quick chicks get their feathers. Except for my barred rock all mine are in the awkward-ugly-cute stage. Still adorable but kinda look like something might be wrong cause they are have fuzz....half feathers

So did yours peck at them selves when the fluff was coming out?

not really pecking....it looks more like preening but yea my BR pullet seems to like to keep her wing feathers nice and take any fluff off.
I have a golden polish who just started this morning ( she is only a week) picking at her wing and around her vent, she had pasty butt when I got her but it is cleared up now, no sign of mites or lice, but she is acting droopy and very sleepy now Any chance that could just be new feathers coming in?

Dunno - I know mine had a day when they were about two weeks that they were all really sleepy, like they seemed to sleep almost the whole day, but that was about 5 days after we got them and I read it could take chickens several days to get used to a new "home" so the next day when they were perky as ever and up about and acting normal, I figured it was them finally relaxing and getting a good nights/days sleep.

What should I do about the poo sticking to the baby chicks butts
dampen a towel with warm water and hold it on the chicks backside. As the poop absorbs the water, wipe it away. It may take a while, but if you start trying to pull it off you can hurt the chick or do damage. It may need to be repeated, but usually once you get it off of there, in my experience, it clears up pretty quick.
