Hello, this is my first time on byc, and relatively new to keeping chickens. I have a query about the safety of their eggs...
Since getting the chickens last november, my 3 yr old has contracted food poisoning twice! The test from the lab came back as Campylobacter, commonly associated with raw poultry...I am convinced it came from the chickens and I also now know that children under 5 should not handle the chickens.
I no longer allow my children to play with them but I am concerned about the eggs...will they also contain Campylobacter? And if so, will thorough cooking of the eggs kill any bacteria? My kids love eggs but I dont think we could cope if it happened again lol
I have looked online for info but can only find it regarding Salmonella.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!
