How significant is interior coop height to chickens' welfare

No idea. I have 2 sexlinks now but I just got them on the 7th so they're still chicks. They are super chill so far though... None of my chickens make a whole lot of noise I have 10 adults... Sometimes there will be a lot of egg laying squawking, but nothing I find disruptive

Thanks. I can't help but laugh every time I think of my neighbors in this upscale neighborhood when they hear a chicken. Lol. Its legal, I checked, hope they get used to it :) This chicken stuff is so fun!!

The walk in coop is obviously the best situation. If you have a few birds then a raised up coop that you can access standing will work fine and actually may work better if you are in a cold region (small and cozy!). As with any coop, properly designed and built will keep your birds happy and healthy.

Good to know. Happen to know if these sex link hens I have are going to be noisy??

Chickens have their own language, and they'll have their pecking order - which means sometimes things may get noisy. I wouldn't worry about it with pullets/hens; however you probably need to check into your subdivision's/HOA's/locality's ordinances to be certain about chickens.

We had our "coop" delivered today! I have an 8' x 12' lofted storage barn that we're converting into a nice coop. I'll post pictures sometime in a few days - all I got done today was laying the linoleum flooring and installing the two roosts. The husband and I are trying to decide what to use/how to build the nesting boxes and how we're going to close off the open loft areas so we don't have hens laying/making messes up where I plan to store the feed. :)

KYNEWBCHICKIE Buying a shed is a great solution. Many of my neighbors have sheds so we'd blend right in...except for the run! Wish I could afford this solution. Good luck. Looking forward to pictures!

I found the thread. Your coop is fantastic. You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into it. I love the "blue" rooster and hens. Are they bantams? They look full size in the photos, but of course it's impossible to tell without a reference.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm new to this list and it's a lot more complicated to navigate than it appears.

Yes, they're bantams - thank you so much for the compliment on the coop work! Like I said, we just converted a storage barn into a coop and we've still got more work to do. The bantams are in their own little coop, one we renovated from an old rabbit/pigeon coop here on the property when we moved in.
The forum can be a little overwhelming at times! ;)

Gk - an economical idea for your coop project would be pallets. A lot of stores give them away to people asking for them, so check around your area. They make great coops from what I've been told, and there's an entire page on Pinterest dedicated to pallet ideas - I've seen a lot of really neat coops made from pallets!
