How smart are deer ?

Deer, elk, moose drop old antlers and regrow them annually. The 'rubbing' is generally to remove the velvet from the new antlers. 'Normal' normal is highly over rated.

I never knew they dropped them, I thought they just continue to grow and sport more points each year. I think I am more confused than (ab)normal.

I thought that for quite some time too, isn't it crazy that they can grow so large in such a short amount of time!??!

It amazes me!! I can only imagine the resources it must draw from them! Crazy!

Exactly, I thought how could they get so long, if they keep shedding them? Maybe increased hormones help it along.

Bucks are NOT stupid. Younger ones perhaps are far less educated than older wiser ones. Deer are a product of their enviornment. Creatures of habit unless something causes them to change it.
