How soon does a Hen lay eggs when she still has chicks?

G'Day from down under Tammy :frowWelcome!

In my experience, with my bantams, usually 2-3 weeks after she has 'cut the cord' on the babies and no longer raising them.

Having said that, I have also had youngsters hanging in the coop, watching mumma hen lay her egg ;)

I think it sometimes depends on the hen.

:frow Hello Tammy and welcome to BYC! There’s so many helpful, knowledgeable folks here and I’m sure you’ll find this site a very useful resource. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.

Depends on the hen! Had a game hen that would lay while her brood surrounded her. By the time they were 6- 8 weeks old the new babies would be hatched. She was a good layer, very fertile, and an excellent mother.
