Hi Tammy, some broody mamas kick the kids to the curb early and go about their lives. Others don't want to cut the cord, usually silkies. They are very motherly.

Depends on the hen! Had a game hen that would lay while her brood surrounded her. By the time they were 6- 8 weeks old the new babies would be hatched. She was a good layer, very fertile, and an excellent mother.
