Red comb for over a month and no egg????

How long after they get really red do they lay?

Can they have red combs and NOT be laying (for weeks and weeks)? Someone (sorry, can't remember who) had a hen lay at 30 weeks. Were the combs red for a month before that, or did they just turn right before laying?

Hmm.. I'm dealing with the same thing. Red combs, irritable girls. That's been over a month now. One squatted for me last week and I thought, "This is it!" and.. nuttin'. Still waiting.

So.. I think they'll start when they start. Not much you can do to help them along. un

That's for both of us. It'll happen soon, I'm sure! And I'm thinking.. maybe I'll get lucky and they'll all start at once (and they'll skip the pullet eggs and create some big 'uns for me!). I can already taste the OMELET! Quiche! Hubby wants some eggs on toast!

I have the same situation with two 25 week old pullets-combs red for over a month, no eggs, but I have an even more frustrating one. I have one pullet who began laying at 25 weeks (she's 36 weeks) then three weeks ago, she just quit. Nothing seems to be wrong with her; in fact she plays like a puppy, running in circles and flapping her wings and jumping at the other girls like she's playing tag, LOL. Dunno what's up with that. And I need her eggs because I'm selling hatching eggs from that breed.

You guys are depressing me. My little hen is 20 weeks and her comb is getting very red. Her brother, who I was still crossing my fingers was a hen 3 weeks ago, crowed for the first time yesterday and is chasing her around the yard. My year old hens are not laying either. One is just through molting...her feathers are grown back now and the other one didn't molt but isn't laying either??????
I have 5 birds, a rooster I hatched, the two hens I bought for companions for him after his other hen was killed and the two 20 week old ones that I also hatched. I have them just for the fun of it and don't need the eggs but they would be a nice benefit to add to the enjoyment.
I need to figure out how to post pictures because my two little ones are quite interesting in appearance and I would like some opinions on breed, although I know they are not pure anything!

We aren't getting any eggs either. My EE hens are usually good layers even through our Iowa winters and they aren't even laying. Now one of our ducks is starting to lay, sigh.

They are off white eggs with a wax coating. Guess I have a mixed up duck.

My Dominique's comb was bright red for a good six weeks and she was squatting for two weeks before she laid her first egg. On the other hand, my EE's comb is still just pink and she's been laying for two weeks.

Thanx everyone; I do feel better! We don't need the eggs (we have five other girls producing almost daily, lucky us!) but I wanted to know if the gal we're getting nothing from was OK. Her comb is soooo red! But if it happens, it happens. Guess I ought to be thrilled she's not a roo (we can't have a roo so he'd end up as coq au vin!).

We can wait. She's the one who has to do all the work.

Sympathies to all of you still waiting!! It's gotta happen sometime, right?
