I have 2 older hens and 2 chicks. The chicks got through a chain link fence today and into a neighbor's rosebush. Somewhere in the process of that and me chasing them back into my yard, one of them wounded her neck/face. She was pecking around and acting normal except for occasionally stopping to scratch at the area. After a while a dark red patch formed.
Once i got my own kids to bed I went out and washed the wound with soap and warm water and put her in an isolated area. Not sure what to do going forward though? I didn't separate her from the other chick because they freak when they're separated. I also didn't use any neosporin because I only have the kind with pain reliever and I read somewhere (here?) that it's not good for chickens.
I don't know how to keep her from scratching at the area so that it can heal. How does one bandage a chicken face? For the toe, it was just the very tip of one toe that had blood on it. I tried washing it off to see if it was blood from scratching her face, but I don't think so...
