how to breed chicken??

Ok, I realize this is a semi-old thread, but what if you only have hens, and want to use a friend's roo? Do you take the hens to the roo or bring the roo to the hens?

it won't matter to the roo. I would bring the roo to the hens. That way the hens are in their own surroundings.

The problem is that I live in a neighborhood and I don't think they would appreciate a rooster. How would I know that she's fertile and would it just be that one egg that's fertile or will she be fertile for a while?

Hens' eggs can remain fertile for about 3-4 weeks because they store sperm. You can tell if an egg is fertile by cracking it open and you will see something like this:

I am new at this and I was wondering if you could breed chickens using artificial insemination on my hens. I have 3 hens and no roos. I have been wanting to hatch for a while.

Much easier would be to source fertile eggs and hatch those. A wanted ad on CL can produce a lot of responses with local fertile eggs.

If you can't have roosters, you'll need a plan for the cockerels you hatch out. Hoping for Pullets is great, but on average half will be male.
