Hello everyone! So I’ve had a coyote, stocking chickens for a while. Today it came really close, but left before I was able to shoot it. I had to leave today and I was gone for about 30 minutes and then when I got home, I noticed he had killed one of my chickens and attacked another one, but was unsuccessful. I’ve had things kill the chickens before, but usually they’re not brave enough to do it while we’re home or will even come near the house. This coyote has been getting close. Too close. And I know it’ll be back for more. I’m wondering what is the best way to lure in/trap a coyote. I’m sure many of you have dealt with this before. When the poultry comes so do the predators. I’m very upset as this was one of my favorite chickens. Please help me get this thing! I have a rabbit call but so far that hasn’t worked. I cannot build a run for my chickens, so please do not tell me too. I love my chickens, but they are for eggs and I’ve already spent a lot of money building their coop.

Please help! Thanks!
(I have a small game hunting license so I am allowed to shoot this coyote)

Just kidding, but if it is safe and legal to discharge a firearm go for it.. If you have a small wire pen to put one of your chicken in it and blast your call.

I don't worry about my chickens if they're locked in the coop or run because its secure but anytime I let my chickens out to free range I put my dogs outside too or I wouldn't have a chicken left.I hope you can find a way to train a dog or get a run.Your chickens need some kind of protection besides a trap or a gun.Edit: I highly recommend foot hold traps for coyotes

I have a big German Shepherd. She keeps most things away. The only time I’ve lost chickens is when she’s in the house or at our neighbors when I’m on a trip. Thank you!

I’ve also had a magpies literally go into the chicken coop when their door is open and break the eggs! Been trying to get one of those for a while too. The magpies are mostly annoying, and they don’t do it often, but the coyote is a real problem.

Years back I had to deal with a coyote. It was terrorizing my chickens in broad daylight. A .22 through the lungs took care of that.

The badger was a different story. I literally slept with my chickens that night, and a .45 pistol.

This coyote has learned that the chickens go to bed at night so he’s been coming during the day too. Man I’m glad I don’t have to deal with badgers! I have some friends that had a bobcat come through and wipe out half their flock. They shot it, mounted it and now it’s in his office.
