How to catch rooster seen running around my neighborhood?

It be worth finding out where he's sleeping. If it's not to high would make for easy grab.

I saw him (!) a couple of times today at that unoccupied farm property. He was a little less shy the second time. He did eat from one of the piles of grain I left, but did not go into the trap after that. Will try again tomorrow.

Hi all, can you tell me please if I'm doing this correctly? I've seen the rooster several times and he is definitely eating the grain I've left out for him. But he won't touch the grain by the trap.

Going into a confined space is scary. Just keep doing what you're doing and the trap will become part of the landscape.

The more spacious the trap the better they work.

Success! Thank you everyone! @Tonyroo I got him while he was roosting/sleeping! @raingarden you were right, the feed stores also recommended a larger trap but fortunately I got him tonight while roosting.

Hi all, do you have any suggestions on how to acclimate him to my flock? I'm concerned they might try to run him off the property. He's in a trap right now, and the other chickens are talking to him, pecking at him, and checking him out. He definitely looks like a mix breed from my flock, likely one that I gave as a chick to my Amish neighbor 5 months ago. My concern is, to get from the Amish family to the barn where I found him, he would have had to cross my property, so I wonder if my chickens ran him off.

My guess is you'd do it like you would any chicken - look but don't touch for a couple of weeks. Keep him confined in an area near your flock. I would think once he feels that these are his ladies, he won't go anywhere.

But it might not take more than a few days of see don't touch for a mature male.
Unless you have other males, then you should just get rid of this one.
