I surround my Wooden fence with old Landscaping timbers. Don't you know those little Buttercups dig inbetween them in one spot and let crawly things come under the fence from the neighbors empty lot. Fortunately I don't have trouble with the wire mesh.
A paving brick put a stop to that. If your worried about an egg cracking on it. Wrap or Glue a piece of foam or several pieces of felt to the brick and cover it with burlap, then cover all with the nesting material. If that doesn't work, fill that sucker in with quick cement.
Bricks in Fence holes work real well. By the way my busy little girls can move a piece of 4 foot wood from a wooden pallet, so that didn't work for me.
