Hi everyone,

After losing my Araucana I've decided to get 2 or 3 more hens, older age 8-12 weeks.

I have 5 other hens age 17 weeks.

Does it matter if I get 2 or 3 separate breeds or is it advised to get all the same breed? Is there any difference in their demeanor with each other? Do they know if they are the same breed.

Our BR's hens are always together. But, I really don't want all the same breed. Any experience in this?

Yes , I've had some experience on this subject. In my opinion, it does not matter to the chickens what breeds they are around. This is assuming they are all standard size, and no bantams. I don't think chickens know what breed they are. the reason why some chickens will always hang out together is usually either they have grown up together or they find a good fit with other chickens and it just happens that way.

This is great information. I have no bantams, all standard size. I would like some bantams, but I can't buy straight run, so it's going to be standard. I'm going to the poultry palace tomorrow and look around, thank you.
