How to Clip Wings

Ive used those hooks before, but this one was so skittish you could not get within 10 feet of her before she already was making to take off, let alone close enough to hook her.

Cattle Prod, haha, ill set it on low, or else we be havin chikin fer dinnah!! If I could get that close TO hit her with the prod I could catch her too :/ Maybe you meant stun gun? :p

Use a net gun :lau .

Mine are so conditioned all they need to do is hear the slightest 'click' of the trash can lid coming off the feed can and they come running from anywhere. I had a friend over we were outside, the chickens were around the side of the house under the boat taking a dust bath. I shushed him and said watch this. I very quietly tried to take the lid off the 30 gallon hefty can. It made the slightest click as it uncoupled from the top of the can, about 2 seconds later, all 4 of them come tearing around the corner like road runners. If i was a bear id have had a 4 course meal.

You mean chickens? That’s cute!!! After we started free feeding our chickens, they all suddenly became more picky for some reason...I guess they are finally eating enough to satisfy themselves, although they still come running when there’s a treat :)

Well, I got one that just HAS to get on top of everything, and into my planters etc etc. SHe's causing a lot of damage amd really stressimg my 'it's dinnertime' nerve. I ended up clipping both her wings. Hopefully this might discourage her from jumping up on everything and getting into where she dont belong. The Ooga horn scared the living crap out of the rest of them and they won't go near that tote anymore but this one..... If I didn't love her petulance because she reminds me... of me.... she'd been stew a time ago. :)

Yah they do that. When they are hungry they'll eat ANYTHING and ravenously too, but when the crop is full, they suddenly become selective... unless it's scratch grains, then they always find just a little bit more room for them! When I let mine loose, I got into the habit of only feeding them at about 2 pm ish. That gives them the whole morning to find stuff to eat so I don't have to feed them quite as much, and it's still early enough that there isn't going to be a mountain of poo tall enough to trip over in the pen the next morning.
