I am in the same boat as you. I use a dog kennel for their run (even though they free range all day). My brother built a really nice wood roof on his dog kennel. (he stores firewood in it) I was going to have him help me build a roof by winter. I was also going to put tarp on the north and east sides to keep it warmer in the winter. By the way, did you add any chicken wire to the bottom of your kennel? some people suggested i do that to help keep out rodents.
Thanks for the input...
I think I will have to do something similar to imtc, due to snow load it has to be very strong. I better get building! Last year snow started in October...ugg!
I'm in the same boat... but no chickens yet. Though I have this fabulous dog run complete with a hole already cut into the side of the shed. I was thinking on ways to get a roof on there, part solid for weather, the other part wire.
Was thinking about a way to do a wood frame that "sits" on top, secured with U bolts. Slightly higher on the one side for rain runoff. But the gutter on the shed is in the way on that side. Not sure how to work that.
