This is very common in the parrot, cocktail and budgie world etc.
I read lots of posts where sick chicks won't eat and ask for advice.. what to do and eventually die.
Syringe feeding is different then crop feeding and I think that's why a lot of baby chick's don't make it. Syringe feeding in people's minds I think is where the chick is having drops of water or food at the beak or mouth area. Please swallow, Whether or not the chick accepts it determines the outcome. Crop feeding bypasses the chick's ability do I want to eat or not and has no choice but food is emptied into crop where it has a fighting chance at survival.
I have saved many baby chick's and adults via crop feeding when required.
