How to cull a chick?

How do you cull a chick?
I just don't want any to suffer if they won't make it anyway.

How do you cull a chick without like, ripping it's head off?

And how do you do it mentally and emotionally

could suffocate it. hit its head on something hard (quick and hard though).. shoot it with a BB gun.. those are the quick, non messy, and painless ways.. (that i know of anyway)

It's not easy mentally; it never is, but if it's for the benefit of the chick, then you have to look at it that way. Wrap the body in a towel, grab a sharp pair of scissors or shears. Position them just right. Turn your head and snip. Make sure you are aimed correctly because you do not want to miss and cause it pain - very important.

It sounds harsh and I'm sorry, but sometimes it has to be done for their benefit and this is the best method I've found.

I assumed a very young chick. I've never had to cull one older than a few days old so you are right; didn't think of that.

Out of every hatch of 20-30, I maybe have one. Seems like the later they hatch, the more likely it is to have one that isn't going to make it. It isn't a fun thing to have to do but unfortunately it's necessary. Can't stand to see anything suffer.

Note: I only do it when necessary, when I KNOW there's no chance so please don't slam me with nasties.
