How to deal with raccoons.

there is a special hog shot for shot guns well 12 ga that is for hog hunting its pretty much 2 or 3 steel balls that is pretty much buck shot but great for a charging pig i have heard (its only good to up to 40 yards) but am with you i would never use a air rifle for hogs, maybe a .22lr for the little ones (don't want to destroy the meat)
have you ever had an airgun with over 40 FPE... I assume not you said you live in Canada and u have restrictions on 4.7 or something lbs yeah thats good for birds or rabbits but how could you say it couldn't be done or that it shouldn't be done without facts to back that up. and it isnt high-powered air rifle if it is under 500 fps...that is more like a bb gun. 4.2 lbs is not good for anything over a rabbit

not trying to start any arguments here but to be fair to defend myself/explain myself.

here in canada we are allowed to have high power air rifles but you need a licenses to get them and as far as i know in my province its illegal to hunt with them (as there not allowed to hunt big game with any air rifles no matter what power they have) but still in my opinion, i think hunting big game with an air rifle is a little under powered 40 FPE on air rilfe is light compared to fire arms for big game (a 30-06 is around 1600 FPE)

hate to double post but,

but as am not allowed to hunt with an air rifle of high power, i have a different opinion on them maybe if i was allowed to use them it would change but its all in the matter of opinions but still not trying to create any beef here :)

edit: as a re-read it i see this is over my comment on hog hunting with a 12 ga, or .22lr, still there mean animals i would much rather trust a 12 ga to put one down with buck shot at close range if they ever charge at you but again each there own if you want to hunt pigs with an air gun all the power to you man.

true I feel the same way i'm just defending myself...we both have a right to our own opinion. also 40 FPE is a general statement on my gun it really is closer to 50 The fact is that air rifles have come a long way from the bb guns and now they are getting better and better they have 50 cal,357, and more different calibers. and you do not need 1600 FPE to kill a deer or even a bear. I respect your opinion. just that airguns are more than up and coming now they are really getting good. they are starting to make special hunting opportunities for them

yeah they r. they are mean animals and would hate to have one charging with just an airgun... but I would certainly like to do it. it would be a fun hunt

okay am looking at getting a low powered air gun to deal with a few things, one am looking at getting it to dispatch coons at point blank or from a 2-3 feet away head shots between the eyes that kind of stuff, (i should note that i plan on saving the pelts from them so a .22 at close range could destroy more of the pelt then i would like), next i would love to hunt rabbits with it, (i mean with in a distance of what 40 feet) again to save the pelt and not damage the meat. (i read some where it takes between 2-3 FPE to kill a rabbit with a lethal shot.) also again i would like to hunt upland game birds with it (grouse etc..) also i would like to do with it is hunt some fur bearers with it (we called the DNR and it sounds like it is legal as far as i know would call again before i ever do something like that with) such as mink, weasel and maybe muskrat. and the last thing is it needs to be fun to shoot :)

okay with that out of the way which of these two would you recommend? the crosman phantom C .22 495FPS or the crosman nitro dusk .22 495FPS? thanks

you could choose either one I would go with the cross man nitro dusk .22 because it is nitro piston. greater energy user. But both are good for wat you want to do. My opinion go wtih the nitro dusk
