How to entertain puppy that is crated 24/7?

Kona is home, he is resting on a pillow on the couch, he whimpers every once in a while, and just looks sooo sad, but he's a trooper, and we will get through this.

Been there with a puppy who had a massive allergic reaction to a bee sting, Extremely massive allergic reaction!
You will need....
A water bottle filled with kibble with the cap glued on with non toxic glue.
Peanut butter filled bones...
Crumpled up news paper for them to rip and tare apart.
dog cookies hidden inside the crate randomly...
AND
When the puppy begins to get board and barks a lot, get the smellyist and smallest treats you can find and toss them in the crate for the puppy to scavenge for.

Our family have dogs that like being pulled around on a wagon type thing and watching everything outside. Even though some of them can't walk they like being taken around to their usual places, and new ones. Instead of his usual walks or romps maybe something like that could help entertain him while still keeping him in his crate. Poor fella...wishing all the best for your pup's great recovery.

One thing I learned is that you may want to rotate the toys. Meaning have lots of them and only let him have them for a bit then take it away and give him another. Otherwise they get bored and you will run out of entertainment. Also ask your vet about Dramamine when he is pain free but needs to stay quiet. I was able to use it on one of mine who had a drainage tube in. It just mellowed her enough she laid around and didn't bother the tube. Frozen treats are good and big hallow leg bones with easy cheese work as well as peanut butter. Good luck and keep us posted!

You probably won't have to worry about entertaining him so much for the first week or so - he probably won't want to do much. Your problem will be of course when he starts feeling better

THEN he'll get restless. I like the papers to rip up (cheap and easy). And I agree with Hopper - rotate toys, because they do lose interest. That even works for grown dogs. I'll pull an old toy out of the chest for my dogs and they get all excited over their "new" toy. Hope your pup heals quickly.

Just be careful with feeding him too much high calorie stuff, he's stuck in a crate and won't burn that off and you'll end up with a chubby puppy. And if you don't want him doing it once he's out of the crate, don't encourage it in the crate. Shredding paper might be fun for him in there, but if you don't want every paper you have in his reach later shredded, find another option for him.
